Woman supporting the restaurant industry has her own surprise

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – The owner of a local restaurant behind the “Tip Back Thursday” social media phenomenon received a surprise tip this week.

Chef Jenna Arcidiacono from Amore Trattoria Italiana got the idea last month, publish your Venmo account to social media, by collecting donations to give to local restaurant employees.

“It’s really the generosity of others, it’s not me doing it,” Arcidiacono said. “I ask people to send me money, I get it in the bank, but they are the ones who send it.”

Just three weeks after the start of Tip Back Thursday, they’ve already donated to several restaurants in Grand Rapids.

“We have now donated $ 12,000 to restaurants,” said Arcidiacono friend Jen Mitchell.

Each restaurant received a tip of one thousand dollars in cash.

“Whether it’s five dollars… or a thousand dollars, we’ve had some really big people donating and some people said, ‘Right now all I can give is $ 10 and we have it. love and appreciate it so much, ”Mitchell mentioned.

When it comes to selecting restaurants to tip, Arcidiacono chooses the places that it believes need it most or deserve it most.

One of this week’s recipients was New Great Wall Buffet. Arcidiacono chose them after hearing that someone had dined there and had rushed there the day before.

“I like the moment he likes clicks,” Arcidiacono said of the feedback from restaurateurs and staff.

After a Thursday afternoon of tips, Arcidiacono’s friends decided it was his turn to be surprised.

“We had this idea that we would love to spoil her for once because who spoils the person who constantly spoils everyone?” Mitchell said.

Unbeknownst to him, the group spent the week collecting additional donations for Arcidiacono and his Amore staff.

A surprised Arcidiacono was working at her restaurant Thursday night when friends knocked on the back door, surprising her with a massive $ 6,200 tip.

Jenna Arcidiacono, the woman behind Tip Back Thursday, receives a surprise tip on February 4, 2021.
